:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from KLD2003 -- My grandkids liked it! : To be fair, this was written by my DIL and nephew so I could be a bit biased. But, as a retired elementary school library/media tech. the real test is to read it to children and see if they like it. My 2 & 7 year old grandsons did like it! The faces carved in the pumpkins fascinated them and the rhyming poetry is always a fun addition. I usually get the hardback copy of purchased books I love but the paperback edition of this one has a glossier paper than the hardback so I like it better. So I recommend the paperback one on Amazon. Together, the illustrations and Brandy's elaborately carved pumpkins tell the cutest stories. The poems are hilarious. My younger kids are learning to read and we love books about pumpkins So this book is perfect for them. If you love Fantastical Pumpkin Carvings and are a kid at heart, this book will not disappoint. My granddaughter is mesmerized by the real-life faces carved in the pumpkins (and I am too); as well as the detail that was added in each scene around the pumpkin. We both like the rats and firemen mice – but there are also cats, bats and owls. The “peculiar” poems are quirky and fun. I have many other children's books but this is by far the most beautiful and funny. Reminds me of the old children poetry books only this is the updated version 3.0 with all the graphic illustrations. To think that the pumpkins in this book are actually real carvings (by the Author Brandy Davis) of pumpkins will make this so captivating for kids.
